Our Mission is to amplify the collective voices of black women with fibroids, alleviate the burden of fibroids, reduce disparities in outcomes, and improve medical and public policy awareness on the subject.
Share diverse stories of Black women’s experiences, challenges, and successes with fibroids to raise awareness about its unique impact on their lives.
Create a sense of urgency around the identification, treatment, and management of fibroids to drive investment in research and solutions.
Improve healthcare interactions by addressing biases and promoting culturally competent care when treating fibroids.
Research shows that 1 in 4 Black women have fibroids, and this number jumps to 2 in 3 by the age of 35. For Black women, regardless of geography or age, the reality is clear: you either have fibroids, will have fibroids, or know at least one family member or friend with fibroids. Despite how common this condition is, the medical community knows alarmingly little about its origins, cure, or prevention.
Even though early detection through screening is key, fibroid screening is not part of routine checkups. Layered within this health crisis is a deeper conversation about the intersection of race, pain, and medicine—about what happens when Black women’s experiences with debilitating pain are met with a medical system influenced by racial biases in the perception and treatment of pain.
This cannot remain the status quo. The time to act is now. Join us in advocating for better research, equitable care, and a healthcare system that truly listens to and prioritizes Black women’s health. Speak up. Share your story. Demand change. Together, we can transform this reality.
